Tiferes Yehonasan Rabbi Yehonasan Eibeschitz on the Torah First Edition. Sadilkov, c. 1820 * Tiferes Yehonasan on the Torah, described on the title page as “a wondrous and extraordinary work, authored by... our master, teacher, and rabbi, the great eagle, the renowned genius throughout the corners of the earth, the rabbi of all the Diaspora, the divine Kabbalist, our teacher Rabbi Yonasan Eibeschitz… ” First edition of this sefer, based on the very manuscript written by the author himself, which was preserved by his grandson. It contains the drashos delivered by Rabbi Yehonasan during his tenure in the kehillah of Hamburg, which he delivered each Shabbos. The manuscript was transcribed by Rabbi Uri, Moreh Tzedek in the kehillah of Dresden, who also published Bnei Ahuvah by Rabbi Yehonasan (Prague, 1819), and added glosses of his own. A rare sefer! The famous Gaon Rabbi Yehonasan Eibeschitz (1690-1764), author of 'Urim VeTumim', 'Yearos Devash' and other sefarim, was known throughout the Jewish communities in the diaspora for his brilliance, sharpness, righteousness and holiness. His name was mentioned with respect and admiration by all Gedolei Yisrael of all times. The Yismach Moshe said that had he lived in the generation of the Rambam and the Rashba he would have been their equal (Chayei Yehonason p. 25). The Rebbe of Komarno wrote in the name of his rebbi Rabbi Tzvi Hersh of Zidichov that he said, ”About our mighty Gaon, the man of Hashem, Rabbi Yehonasan who merited to see Eliyahu [HaNavi] - who is capable of uttering his praises? I could only aspire to be dust beneath his feet” (Netiv Mitzvosecha, Shevil HaEmunah, Chapter 6). As is common with many sefarim printed in regions of Russia and Poland, no printing information appears on the title page, and the details are established based on the Bibliographic Institute. This copy belonged to several rabbanim and tzaddikim of Tzfas: Stamps of the Admor Rabbi Aharon Malik of Stratyn (d. 1907) Signatures of Rabbi Avraham Shlomo Goldenbaum, a leading figure of the Chassidic community in Tzfas (d. 1917) Signature of his son, Rabbi Chaim Aharon Stamps of Rabbi Berish Zaltz (with pencil signature), one of the close associates of the saintly Rabbi Shlomo Eliezer Alfandari and among the sages of Tzfas Several leaves contain early Ashkenazic handwritten corrections.
