Special Letter Brimming with Blessings from the Leshem “May he be blessed by the One Who Gives Life with a good, long, and pleasant life” Shavel, 1913 * A beautiful letter on a postcard, written entirely in the handwriting of the holy Kabbalist Rabbi Shlomo Elyashiv of Shavel, author of the Leshem, sent to his relative, Rabbi Shraga Feivel Leizerowitz of London. In the body of the letter, the Leshem blesses the recipient with immense and heartfelt blessings: ”May you be blessed by the One Who Gives Life with a good, long, and pleasant life, to cleave to Hashem and His Torah, with a life of peace and delight all your days, and may you merit long and blessed years from the blessing of holiness, in all the desires of your pure heart, your soul and heart from Hashem.” He concludes with the words: “As the soul of your friend, who blesses you from the Abode of Blessings, with heart and soul, Shlomo, known as Elyashiv.” The holy sage Rabbi Shlomo Elyashiv of Drizin (1822-1926), known also as the “Leshem” after his sefer Leshem Shevo V'Achlama, was a tzaddik and one of the greatest Kabbalists of the Achronim. He was a descendant of the Ari Hakadosh and Rabbi Shmuel of Ostropol. From his youth, he lived a life of sanctity and piety, dedicating his days to the study of revealed Torah while his nights were spent delving into the inner wisdom of Kabbalah. The Chazon Ish remarked that the Leshem was “the last true Kabbalist” from whom one could still receive the authentic tradition of the secrets of Kabbalah. When his sefer Leshem Shevo V'Achlama was published, it was said that since the revelation of the Ramak’s writings, no sefer had elucidated the wisdom of Kabbalah like the Leshem. Upon his passing, the people of Jerusalem saw a pillar of light leading him (Yeshurun Vol. 22, pp. 465, 470). At the beginning of the letter, the Leshem explains that he had not been in good health, which caused a delay in replying “as befits Your Honor, shlit”a, ” and blesses the recipient, who likewise had been unwell, that “Hashem Yisbarach Shemo should send you a complete recovery from Heaven among all the sick of Yisrael.” Shavel, 1913.
