Avodas HaLevi on the 613 Mitzvos According to the Rambam Venice, 1546 * ”You should make signs for the Torah so it should not be forgotten from your mouth, and let this be in your hand to restore your soul” (words of the author at the end of the sefer). Avodas HaLevi, a sefer listing the 613 mitzvos according to the order of the parshiyos in the Torah, following the opinion of the Rambam, with references to other sefarim that cite these mitzvos, by Rabbi Shlomo ben Eliezer HaLevi. The references point to Mishnayos, Midrashim, and to the early Rishonim, including the Rambam himself, Sefer Mitzvos Gadol (Semag), Sefer Mitzvos Katan (Semak – Amudei Gola), the Tur, Sefer Adam VeChava and Meisharim, Kol Bo, Rokeach, Agur, and occasional mentions of the Rif. The sefer was first printed in Constantinople around 1515. The present edition is an enhanced one, with editorial additions such as the count of mitzvos at the beginning of each parsha. The author writes some words about himself at the end of the sefer, from which all known biographical information is drawn. He composed the sefer around the age of twenty, and, being a wanderer, hastened to print it for the benefit of the public. Following that, a poem of his was printed. Venice, 1546. At the beginning and end of the sefer are multiple signatures from Rabbi Avraham Yosef Shlomo Gratziano (אי”ש ג”ר), one of the Rabbanim of Italy in the 17th century, owner of an esteemed library rich with manuscripts and rare printed works. Two signatures read: ”אי”ש ג”ר יצ”ו חאו”ע”, meaning: “Avraham Yosef Shlomo Gratziano, may his Creator protect and sustain him, though he bears the disgrace of man and the scorn of the people.” Another signature notes that he purchased the sefer in Modena in 1645.
