Sefer Yesod Two Incomplete Volumes of Mishneh Torah by the Rambam Daniel Bomberg Edition Venice, 1524 * Two volumes from the monumental work of Rabbeinu Moshe ben Maimon: Mishneh Torah - along with the classic commentaries Maggid Mishneh, Migdal Oz, and Hagahos Maimoniyos. Presented here are books four through ten of the Yad HaChazakah: Nashim, Kedushah, Hafla’ah, Zera’im, Avodah, Korbanos, and Taharah. These volumes contain 304 leaves out of the 770 in the complete set: Volume I: Leaves 229–306; [1] blank leaf, [7] leaves; leaves 307–389. Volume II: Leaves 396–533. This edition was printed in splendid form and with meticulous editorial precision in the press of Daniel Bomberg in Venice, about a year after he finished printing the first complete Shas in history. This is the first appearance of the Migdal Oz by Rabbi Shem Tov ben Avraham ibn Gaon, a disciple of the Rashba. The Hagahos Maimoniyos, by a disciple of the Maharam of Rotenberg, was previously printed in the Constantinople 1509 edition, but here it was printed from a different manuscript that often differs significantly from the Constantinople version! In subsequent editions, it was this version of the Hagahos Maimoniyos that was reprinted, not the Constantinople edition. Following the conclusion of Seder Nashim, seven leaves were bound, containing an additional commentary of the Maggid Mishneh on Nashim, which had reached the printers only midway through the printing process. (In most copies, these leaves are bound at the end of the volume; here, they are bound in their proper place at the end of Seder Nashim.) The final leaf of these seven leaves contains a note from the proofreader, Rabbi David ben Eliezer HaLevi of Ferrara, offering an important explanation of his editorial process, as well as clarifications of difficult passages in the Rambam.
