First Edition. * Sefer Mateh Yehudah is a Birkas HaMazon, along with the zemiros for Shabbos and Motzaei Shabbos, liturgical texts for Chanukah, weddings and Sheva Brachos, Bris Milah, Pidyon HaBen, Eruvin, and the Seder Kapparos. Printed with exceptional precision, it includes a commentary and halachic rulings by the grammarian Rabbi Yehudah Leib Oppenheim of Glogow, author of Derech Siach, one of the foremost grammarians of his generation. At the beginning of the sefer are enthusiastic approbations from some of the greatest Rabbanim of the time: Rabbi Yosef Shmuel of Cracow, Rabbi Dovid Oppenheim (a relative of the author), Rabbi Avraham Broda, and the Maharshashach, all of whom praise the sefer’s meticulous accuracy and grammatical excellence. First edition. Dozens of later editions of Birkas HaMazon were published with the Mateh Yehudah commentary presented here. Sefarim of this kind — personal bentschers containing tefillos and brachos used in the home rather than in the synagogue — were once common in Ashkenazi Jewish homes.
