Shu”t HaRadach Sefer Yesod Kushta, 1537. First Edition. The First Sefer Teshuvos by the Achronim! * Halachic questions and teshuvos by Rabbi David HaKohen of Corfu. The sefer was printed by Eliezer, son of the famous printer Gershom Soncino. A foundational sefer of She'eilos U'Teshuvos, cited over twenty times by Rabbi Yosef Karo in his landmark work Beis Yosef. Rabbi David HaKohen of Corfu, the Radach (d. 1530) , was one of the leading sages in the era of the Spanish Expulsion. He corresponded with his rebbi Mahari Mintz, the Re’em, Maharam Alashkar, and Mahari ben Chaviv, author of Ein Yaakov. ------------------ Kushta Reish Following the expulsion from Spain and the closing of Jewish printing presses in Spain and Italy, Constantinople (Kushta) became the global center for printing Hebrew books. This era, known as the post-incunabula period, saw the publication of pivotal sifrei yesod that had a decisive influence on the Jewish bookshelf. Over time, these sefarim became very rare and are highly sought after by book lovers and collectors. Shu”t HaRadach was brought to print by the author’s son-in-law and disciple, Rabbi David Vital, author of Kesser Torah (Constantinople, 1536). Rabbi David organized the sections of the sefer into chapters he coined ‘houses’ and sub-chapters coined ‘rooms.’ Constantinople, 1537-1538. First edition.
