Letter from Rabbi Elchonon Wasserman Hy”d Baranovich, c. 1931 * Handwritten and autographed letter by Rabbi Elchonon Wasserman in which he seeks to assist three rabbanim in the Baranovitch Yeshiva Ketana. At the beginning of the letter, Rabbi Elchonon acknowledges the receipt of a donation ”via Maran HaGaon Rabbi Chaim Ozer, may he live.” This is referring to Rabbi Chaim Ozer Grodzensky, Rabbi Elchonon's brother-in-law. Rabbi Elchanan concludes his letter with his signature and a heartfelt blessing: ”From the one who honors and respects you in utmost esteem, blessing you and your companions with a long and happy life, a Kesiva VeChasima Tova and all good forever, Elchonon Bunim Wasserman.” Rabbi Elchonon Wasserman (1875 - 1941) was a Rosh Yeshiva of Ohel Torah in Baranovitch and a leading Torah figure in prewar Lithuania. In the Torah world he is known simply as ”Reb Elchonon.” His scholarly sefarim Kovetz He'aros and Kovetz Shiurim are a cornerstone of yeshiva study today and his incisive essays form a fundamental pillar of Torah hashkafa.
