Zohar Shapira Press Zhitomir, 1863 * Three volume set of the Zohar by the Tanna Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai, edited and corrected based on the Constantinople edition. A complete set of the large-format edition (a smaller-format was printed in the same year). Printed by Rabbi Chanina Lipa and Rabbi Yehoshua Heshel Shapira, grandsons of Rabbi Moshe Shapira, the Av Beis Din of Slavita and son of Rabbi Pinchas of Koritz. A complete set with wide margins. Fine copies. Four title pages, three of which feature the words “Sefer HaZohar” and “Zhitomir” printed in red letters. Zhitomir, 1863. Complete set, bound in 3 volumes. Page Count: Vol. I: [4], 251, 17 leaves; Vol. II: [1], 278 leaves; Vol. III: 115; [1], 117–309, 9 leaves. Condition: Some holes in volumes II–III, and light stains. Fine new leather bindings. - - - - - - - - - - - - - Shapira Press “Every G-d fearing person should strive to purchase sefarim from early printings, which were mostly printed by G-d fearing Jews, especially from the Slavita and Zhitomir Presses, printed by the grandsons of the Rav of Koritz, who were exceptionally holy printers” (the Shomer Emunim in his sefer Taharas HaKodesh Ch. 6). - - - - - - - - - - - - - Copy of Tzaddikim Sefer Bereishis belonged to the Admor Rabbi Mordechai Dov Ber Twersky of Tomashpi l (1848–1920), grandson of the Mitteler Rebbe of Lubavitch on his father’s side, and on his mother’s side a grandson of Rabbi Yaakov Yisrael of Cherkasy, son of Rabbi Mordechai of Chernobyl. Inscriptions of his ownership appear on the title page. The volumes Shemos–Devarim belonged to the Admor Rabbi Avraham Elimelech Shapira of Grodzisk (1894–1967), great-grandson of the Admor Rabbi Elimelech of Grodzisk and son-in-law of Rabbi Yerachmiel Moshe of Kozhnitz. One signature appears on the title page and several stamps of his appear on various leaves.
