Magnificent Blessings for a Good Year from the Minchas Elazar of Munkatch * A letter on a postal card from the holy Admor Rabbi Chaim Elazar Shapira of Munkatch, the author of Minchas Elazar, one of the greatest Rebbes in all of Europe before the Holocaust. On the back of the postcard, the Rebbe blesses the recipient with tremendous blessings, in his own handwriting and signature: ”With the help of Heaven. To my dear and beloved friend – may you be live and be well, I hereby send you my heartfelt regards and bless you with a Gmar Chasimah Tovah, a seal within a seal for supreme protection, among the treasured faithful, salvation and redemption, and the joy of Yom Tov with every lasting good, Chaim Elazar Shapira” Near his handwritten signature appears his stamp as well, in Latin script. On the front of the postcard are warm blessings ”spoken by the holy Rebbe” in the handwriting of his attendant, Rabbi Chaim Dov Greenfeld. The Admor Rabbi Chaim Elazar Shapira (1872-1937) was the son of the Darchei Teshuvah and venerable author of the Minchas Elazar. He was revered as one of the greatest Hungarian Chassidic Rebbes in the pre-Holocaust era and was well-versed in all areas of Torah and close to many of his generation's leaders. He fought valiantly to preserve tradition and was absolutely uncompromising against any change. He was appointed Raavad of Munkatch during his father’s lifetime, and in 1914 as rav and Rebbe of the city. He was a prolific author whose written legacy includes the 5-volume Shu”t Minchas Elazar, Darchei Teshuvah al Hilchos Niddah, Darchei Chaim V’shalom; Likutei Divrei Torah Chaim V’shalom; Chamishah Ma’amaros; Os Chaim V’Shalom and others.
