Kesones Pasim by the Toldos Yaakov Yosef Lvov, 1866. First Edition. * Marvelous discourses and commentary on the Chumashim of Vayikra and Bamidbar “which ignite the listener’s soul and heart with fervor for the service of the Creator.” Authored by the holy Rabbi Yaakov Yosef of Polonne, author of Toldos Yaakov Yosef, the foremost disseminator of the teachings of the Baal Shem Tov, and the greatest of his disciples. As in the sefer Toldos, the author brings many chiddushim that he heard from the Baal Shem Tov, noting them with: “I heard from my teacher” or “I received from my teacher.” Rabbi Pinchas of Koritz said that every time the Baal HaToldos wrote the words “and I heard from my teacher, ” — those words carry such immense spiritual power they could revive the dead. Other tzaddikim would say that only one who is able to revive the dead can grasp the meaning and depth of the words “and I heard from my teacher”... This sefer, printed here for the first time from manuscript, is the last section of the Baal HaToldos's writings to be printed and completes the other sefarim of the author: * Toldos Yaakov Yosef on Chamisha Chumshei Torah, his most well-known sefer and the very first chassidic sefer ever to be brought to print. * Ben Porat Yosef on Chumash Bereishis. * Tzofnas Pane’ach on Chumash Shemos. * Kesones Pasim before us, on the Chumashim of Vayikra and Bamidbar. Rabbi Yaakov Yosef of Polnoye, the Baal HaToldos (1695–1782) , was the closest disciple of the Baal Shem Tov. The Baal Shem Tov loved him and drew him close with exceptional affection, and transmitted to him the majority of his teachings.
