Sefer Yesod Shu”t Rabbi Yosef Karo Salonika, 1598. First Edition. * Shailos and teshuvos on Even HaEzer by Rabbi Yosef Karo, author of Shulchan Aruch and Beis Yosef. The teshuvos of the Beis Yosef, like his other works, became sifrei yesod of halacha. All later halachic authorities drew extensively from his teshuvos on topics of Kiddushin, Gittin, Ksubos, and agunos. Already during his lifetime, Rabbi Yosef Karo (1488-1575) gained acclaim as a supreme halachic authority, and he responded to weighty questions sent from all over the world. The present sefer offers interesting insights to life in 16th-century Tzfas, as well as the complex halachic questions that arose during the period following the Spanish expulsion. The sefer was brought to print by the Beis Yosef’s son, Rabbi Yehuda Karo. In the introduction to the sefer, Rabbi Yehuda Karo writes that his father’s will included instructions to his children to edit and print his teshuvos. Included in the sefer is one particularly long and fascinating teshuvah by Rabbi Moshe Cordovero, the Ramak (Dinei Kesubah Ch. 3). Salonika, 1598. First edition. Page Count: [4], 152 leaves.
