Segulah for Protection Sefer Raziel HaMalach Special Edition with Kabbalistic Illustrations in Manuscript! Salonika, 1843 * This is the sefer of Adam HaKadmon — Sefer Raziel HaMalach, dealing with matters such as the Heavenly legions, the names of the angels, the creation of the world, amulets and invocations of angels, spirits, and demons. The sefer is among the earliest sources for various protections and segulos. In this special edition, the illustrations were not printed through engraved plates as in the other editions, but rather, they were drawn by hand! The reason for this was apparently the lack of suitable technology in the Salonika printing press. The handwritten illustrations appear in the following nine leaves: 32/1, 73/1, 74/1, 76/2, 77/2, 78/1, 78/2, 79/1, 79/2. This is the earliest printing of the sefer in the Middle Eastern region. Another remarkable phenomenon appearing for the first time in this edition is the drawing of a holy amulet, which in all previous editions was printed across the width of the leaf, which of course made it difficult to read, whereas in this present edition, the amulet is printed on a large folded leaf (leaves 11–12), printed upright, and thus can be read normally. Having the sefer Raziel HaMalach in one's home is a segulah for protection and success, and especially for safeguarding against fire, as written on the title page of the sefer: “And for all the House of Israel it is a powerful segulah —  to merit seeing children and grandchildren who are wise and understanding,  for success and blessing,  to extinguish destructive fire that it may not prevail in one’s home,  and that no demon or harmful spirit may dwell in his abode.For whoever keeps this holy, precious, and awe-inspiring sefer hidden and safeguarded together with his silver and gold among his treasures, and carries it with him on his way — he shall be saved from every enemy and adversary who rises against him. And for a woman in difficult childbirth, if it is placed beneath her pillow, the Holy One, blessed be He, will open her womb and she will give birth for good life and peace. And in times of illness or distress, it shall bring him swift deliverance — as attested and affirmed by all men of Torah.” Salonika 1843. Rare. Page Count: 81 leaves. Size: 23.1 cm.
