Asarah Ma'amaros by the Rema of Pano with Yad Yehuda Commentary First Edition. Frankfurt, 1698 * Imros Tehoros containing five of the ten holy essays by the saintly kabbalist Rabbi Azarya Menachem of Pano, the principal Kabbalah sefer of the Rema of Pano. In this edition, the fundamental and comprehensive commentary Yad Yehudah appears here for the first time, authored by Rabbi Yehudah Leib of Frankfurt, Av Beis Din of Mainz. This commentary is considered the most essential and in-depth commentary on the writings of the Rema of Pano (see introduction to the new Jerusalem edition, 2005). The five essays printed here with the commentary are: Chikur Din, Eim Kol Chai, Ma’amar HaMiddos, Olam Katan and Ma’amar Ha’itim. Rabbi Yehuda Leib of Frankfurt, Av Beis Din of Mainz (d. 1714) , served as rav of Mainz for twenty-eight years and was one of the rabbanim of Frankfurt. Besides Yad Yehuda, he also authored the Zera Yehuda commentary on the Haggadah (Offenbach 1721), which includes a ”wonderful commentary” on Birkas HaMazon (as described by the Chida in Shem HaGedolim). In the Frankfurt community ledger, it was written about him: ”He delivered magnificent drashas with great sharpness and Torah truths... and he became well-known through his work which was published under his name, the sefer Yad Yehuda, a commentary on the Ten Ma'amaros...” (Knesses Yisrael by Rabbi Shlomo Yosef Finn). Frankfurt, 1698 . First edition with Yad Yehuda commentary. Page Count: [2], 143; 98 leaves. Size: Medium format. Condition: Good; fine antique binding, slightly worn.
