Chabad: Toras Chaim by the Mitteler Rebbe Two Handsome Volumes Warsaw, 1866 * Explanations on the drashos of the Baal HaTanya on Chumash Bereishis, in two volumes, authored by his son, the Mitteler Rebbe, Rabbi Dov Ber Schneuri of Lubavitch. The second part was printed here for the first time, along with a reprint of the first part, which had already been printed during the Rebbe’s lifetime (Kapust 1826). The printing of this sefer fulfilled the will of the Mitteler Rebbe, who, with his final strength, only moments before his passing, instructed that it be printed. This is described at length by the son of the author in the introduction: Shortly before the Rebbe’s passing, he turned to him and said, “You see that my sun is setting... yet the sun that has set for me shall rise again when you strengthen yourself and become a man to bring forth the precious sefer and the holy writings on the entire Torah, Toras Chaim…” The Rebbe’s passing was accompanied by a most awesome scene: “Before he was taken from us, we beheld with our own eyes how all his natural strength was gone; the physical departed entirely, and the power of his intellect grew stronger. Then he began to speak of ancient and wondrous matters — not of his own spirit, but by the spirit of Hashem speaking through him. We heard his words amidst the fiery flame of G-d that burned from the terrible cold issued from his lips, for every trace of bodily warmth had vanished, and only a still, small voice was heard…” (from the introduction). Indeed, thirty-eight years after his passing, after many difficulties and delays, the final wish of the Rebbe was at last fulfilled with the appearance of the present sefer. Two parts in two handsome matching volumes, with original ornate bindings. Printed by the Mitteler Rebbe’s son, Rabbi Menachem Nachum of Niezhin, author of the important introduction and cousin and mechutan of the Tzemach Tzedek. His son Rabbi Shneur, son-in-law of the Tzemach Tzedek, assisted him in the printing, as mentioned in the introduction. Warsaw, 1866. Two volumes. First edition of volume II.
