Segulah Sefer Legendary Tehillim Printed and Blessed by Rabbi Yitzchak of Neshchiz Warsaw, 1864 * Sefer Tehillim and Ma’amados, printed for the merit of the public by the holy miracle-worker, the Admor Rabbi Yitzchak of Neshchiz zt”l, son of Rabbi Mordechai of Neshchiz, and the prime disciple of Rabbi Levi Yitzchak of Berditchev and the Chozeh of Lublin. The full text of the verses of Tehillim is found here in its entirety, and in good condition! Whoever wishes may pour out his soul reciting the chapters of Tehillim, known to bring salvation, from this holy copy, from beginning to end! The copy itself is almost entirely complete — missing only the title page, the “Yehi Ratzon” leaf that follows, and the lower half of one additional leaf. The Rebbe, descended from David HaMelech, yearned to enable the Jewish people to merit reciting the verses of Tehillim most imbued with power for salvation. In an extraordinarily unusual act, he financed the printing of this edition from his own means in order to distribute it at half the printing cost. As commonly related, the Rebbe himself would personally hand each copy to its recipient, bestowing upon it his heartfelt blessing. “When the Tehillim were sold, the Rebbe himself would take them in his holy hands and recite a blessing for the buyer; sometimes he would kiss the Tehillim before handing it to him.” (Zikaron Tov, Piotrków, 1892, leaf 25a) These Tehillim became famous throughout the world. Countless chassidim longed to obtain the “Tehillim of the Rebbe of Neshchiz, ” who was called “the tzaddik of the generation” by the Divrei Chaim of Sanz, and described by the holy Maggid of Trisk as “renowned for his holiness throughout the world.” Before long, all copies were sold. This precious Tehillim has, over the years, become an extremely rare treasure! Four years later, the printer, R’ Nosson Shriptgiser, testified (in the second title page of Toldos Yitzchak, Warsaw 1868) that he had printed 6,000 copies of this holy edition for the Rebbe. Yet, due to their belovedness and heavy use on the one hand, and the destruction and loss of sefarim on the other, they have become virtually unobtainable. This edition is not listed in any public library, both in Israel and abroad. It is not listed in the international WorldCat database or in the Israel Union Catalog. It is not held in the National Library of Israel, and is registered in the Institute for Hebrew Bibliography based only on a photograph of its title page. The revered Admor Rabbi Yitzchak of Neshchiz (1788–1868) was one of the great Rebbes of his generation. Tens of thousands flocked to him to receive his blessings. A holy soul from birth, whose sanctity was evident to all, his illustrious father, Rabbi Mordechai of Neshchiz, declared when his son was young that he would be “a most wondrous man.” He married the granddaughter of his rebbi, Rabbi Levi Yitzchak of Berditchev. Regarding the salvations he wrought, he once related in a moment of joy (Zikaron Tov, vol. I): “In my youth, when I would recite a chapter of Tehillim, I would effect good for every woman in labor in the surrounding area; how much more so when Hashem has granted me to recite five chapters of Tehillim. He would rarely deliver words of Torah, except in his final year when he began to deliver words of Torah as ”a gushing spring, ” using the very Tehillim he had printed. When doing so, he appeared detached from this world (Zikaron Tov, p. 78 §9). Even before going to bed, he would study from the Tehillim he had printed. According to accounts, a few months after this printing, the Rebbe’s beis medrash was destroyed by fire, and the proceeds from the sale of the Tehillim — whose price had risen considerably — enabled the reconstruction of the beis medrash. Description of the Volume: Sefer Tehillim with the commentaries of Rashi, Metzudas Dovid, and Metzudas Tzion, with Yiddish translation at the bottom of the pages. Printed and bound together with Seder Ma’amados, arranged by the Shelah HaKadosh, including order of korbanos according to the Ohev Yisrael of Apta. The Seder Ma’amados has its own title page. The present copy is almost entirely complete, lacking only two and a half leaves and a few words on several leaves: the first two leaves (title page and the 'Yehi Ratzon' page) and the lower half of leaf [3], which contains the Yiddish commentary. They have been restored by photograph. As stated above, the full text of the Tehillim is preserved in its entirety! Page Count: [2], 303; 31 leaves. Size: 18.3 cm. Condition: Generally good.
