Birkas Kohen “And may they be blessed in his merit in all their endeavors.” Handwritten Letter from Rabbi Meir Simcha HaKohen, Rav of Dvinsk, Author of Ohr Sameach * Handwritten and autographed letter of blessing by the Gaon Rabbi Meir Simcha HaKohen, Av Beis Din of Dvinsk, on the occasion of a friend’s appointment to the rabbinate. The letter includes words of blessing for both the rav and the community: “And I hereby bless them that they rejoice in him and he in them… He should be their glory and pride, and may they be blessed in his merit in all their endeavors. As it says, “near a Torah scholar there is blessing” The honor, happiness, and wealth of their community shall increase. May Hashem bless you according to the desires of your heart, and like the blessing of the one who blesses His people Yisrael, Meir Simcha Kohen.” The Gaon Rabbi Meir Simcha HaKohen, author of Ohr Somayach and Meshech Chochma (1843–1926) , was considered the preeminent Torah giant of Lithuanian Jewry. His immense mastery of all facets of Torah is vividly reflected in his monumental works Ohr Somayach and Meshech Chochma. An exceptional genius by any standard, all the Rabbanim of his generation stood in awe of him, marveling at his wisdom, character, brilliance, and vast knowledge. The letter was sent to Rabbi Nosson Nota Efraimovitz (1873–1953) , a native of Dvinsk who served as a Rav in several towns in Lithuania and Latvia, and from 1929, in Montreal, Canada. On the second page, several additional lines in the same vein were appended in the handwriting and signature of Rabbi Moshe Dovid HaKohen Grodzky, one of the Rabbanim of Dvinsk, a close friend of Rabbi Meir Simcha, and ultimately buried beside him. His son was Rabbi Eliezer Yaakov Hy”d, Av Beis Din of Vorkilan and author of Torah V’Da’as (Riga, 1936). Dated 1919 . Fifteen lines in the holy handwriting of the Ohr Sameach, with his signature and stamp. Size : 13 x 21 cm. Condition : Light tears, stains.
