Unpublished Manuscript –  Chiddushim on Sugyos by a Disciple of Maharam Bennet –  1820–1830 * A complete manuscript of 94 sides in the handwriting of its author, containing chiddushim on sugyos from several masechtos in Shas, and, at the end, several teshuvos. The author was a prominent disciple of the great leader of the generation, Rabbi Mordechai Bennet of Nikolsburg, whom he mentions multiple times in the present manuscript. He quotes about five pages from a teshuva of the Maharam Bennet (printed in Har HaMor, section 21), and remarks: ”And to me, his young disciple, it seems fitting to bring supporting proofs for the words of my master and teacher mentioned above…” The writer further notes that he corresponded with the author of Mefarsei HaYam — either Rabbi Yosef Shaul Nathanson or his brother-in-law Rabbi Mordechai Zev Ettinga — and with Rabbi Leib Oppenheimer, author of Mei Be'er, and he brings chiddushim from Baruch Ta'am and other great figures of the generation. His chiddushim were written with great depth; regarding one chiddush of his, he writes: ”Additionally, I have hereby resolved a great difficulty, one that I have not seen raised in any of the sefarim of the Achronim.” It was likely written in the years 1820–1830, as the latest sefer mentioned in the manuscript is Mei Be'er, printed in Vienna in 1829. The writer's rebbi, Maharam Bennet himself, passed away in 1829. Moravia? Circa 1820–1830. Page Count: [96] written sides, plus some blank leaves. Greenish high-quality paper. Size: 22.2 cm. Condition: Good, with a few stains. Original used binding. On the sides of the cover and the protective leaves appear various signatures and inscriptions: ”Gedalia Tuvia Freund” — likely a disciple of the Chasam Sofer, son of Rabbi Yehoshua Freund of Kerali, head of the distinguished family. ”In it I will write chiddushei Torah on Maseches Chullin — that which Hashem granted me with when I studied with my master and teacher, the Gaon Rabbi Kapil of Verboi” — indeed, some of the chiddushim here pertain to Maseches Chullin. ”…Benedict…”, ”Yeshayah…” and others.
