Bris Yitzchak Extraordinary Work on Bris Milah with List of Mohalim from Around the World! Amsterdam, 1768 * Bris Yitzchak contains prayers and a tikkun to be studied the night before a bris milah, as well as the order of prayers for a bris milah, including piyutim and blessings. This copy also includes the order of circumcision “for Anusim (forced converts) who come from Spain and Portugal” (p. 12a), the order of circumcision and immersion for converts, the order of circumcision of slaves, orphans, and illegitimate children. There is a dedication in Portuguese at the beginning of the sefer, in honor of the Mohalim, by the publisher, the philanthropist Shlomo Levi Maduro. At the end of the sefer is a rare listing of mohalim who were active in Amsterdam, as well as those serving the Portuguese congregation throughout the world. Includes names from Surinam, South America; Curacao in the Caribbean; Hamburg, Germany; and Bayonne, France, as well as the dates they began serving as mohalim! To the best of Zaidy’s knowledge, no printed “catalog” of a list of mohalim such as this exists from early periods! There is a beautiful engraving of a bris milah on the title page, and on the last page, an illustration of a bowl of warm water for washing the baby. (In the past, the baby was washed before and after the bris in warm water; see Shabbos 134b). Edited by Rabbi Yitzchak HaKohen Belinfante, with an approbation of the rabbi of the Sephardic Congregation in Amsterdam, Rabbi Shlomo Shalem. Bound in its original leather binding, fitted to the sefer, with magnificent gilt embossing. An extremely rare sefer and particularly interesting. Amsterdam, 1768. Page Count: [2], 17, [1] leaves. Condition : Good, with restorations and minor margin repairs to several leaves (loss of a few letters).
