Famous Sefer Segulah Raziel HaMalach First Edition of the Glosses of the Maggid of Kozhnitz! Warsaw, 1812 * An early kabbalistic sefer about the heavenly constellations, names of the ministering angels, the creation of the world, and segulos and amulets to banish evil spirits. The sefer is famous as a powerful segulah and source of protection simply by possessing it in one’s home! The following is printed on leaf 2b: “For all of Yisrael, it is a powerful segulah – to see children and grandchildren who are wise and understanding, for success and blessing, to extinguish a fire in the home, and to keep away any evil spirit or harm from one’s home. Anyone who keeps this holy, precious and awe-inspiring sefer hidden and safeguarded with his silver, gold and valuables, shall merit swift salvation in times of tribulation, and all Bnei Torah attest and tell of this.” In this edition, the glosses of the holy Maggid, Rabbi Yisrael of Kozhnitz, were printed for the first time, taken directly from his original manuscript (as stated on the title page). At the beginning of the sefer is an approbation from the Maggid of Kozhnitz. Approbations to Sefer Raziel are exceedingly rare; due to its sanctity, tzaddikim such as Rabbi Levi Yitzchak of Berditchev were afraid to grant one for it! The Maggid writes regarding the sefer that “its greatness, its segulah, the power of its effect, and the abundance of its success are known to all, ” and that in his desire to benefit the public he added to this edition “several matters written in the margins of my own copy, which Hashem granted me… to guide Hashem's people in the upright path through the fine words of this sefer.” This is the first time the sefer was printed together with any commentary. This is one of the few works from the writings of the Maggid that was printed during his lifetime ; almost  all of his other writings were published only after his passing. Warsaw, 1812.
