Letter of the Maharam Sofer, Av Beis Din of Tiszafüred, and his Son-in-Law Rabbi Shmuel Binyamin Strasser –  1912 * A postal card written jointly by father-in-law and son-in-law, from the distinguished family in Hungary: - Rabbi Moshe Sofer , Av Beis Din of Tiszafüred, the first child to be named after the Chasam Sofer. He writes the card together with his son-in-law: - Rabbi Shmuel Binyamin HaKohen Strasser , Hy”d, a descendant of the Chasam Sofer who succeeded his father-in-law as Av Beis Din of Tiszafüred. The son-in-law is the first to write, inviting the recipient to a Siyum HaShas to be held in Tiszafüred. After him, his father-in-law, Maharam Sofer, writes that he would be very happy at the recipient’s arrival, and asks that he pray for the recovery of his son, Rabbi Yaakov Shalom. Rabbi Moshe Sofer (1840–1917) was the son of Rabbi Yaakov Shalom Sofer, one of the eminent disciples of the Chasam Sofer. He learned under the Ksav Sofer and under his uncles — the Machaneh Chayim and the Yalkut Eliezer. He served for fourteen years as Av Beis Din of Sendra, and afterwards as Av Beis Din of Tiszafüred. He authored Maharam Sofer, two volumes on the Torah, chiddushim and teshuvos (Tarnow 1928). The son-in-law, Rabbi Avraham Shmuel Binyamin Strasser Hy”d , was a great-great-grandson of the Chasam Sofer: the son of Rabbi Akiva HaKohen Strasser, Av Beis Din of Tokaj, son of Rabbi Yaakov Yehuda Leib HaKohen Strasser, son-in-law of the Ksav Sofer, son of the Chasam Sofer. He was a disciple of the Daas Sofer and served as Av Beis Din of Tiszafüred from 1917, after the passing of his father-in-law, until he was murdered in the Holocaust. Tiszafüred, 1912.
