Mifalos Elokim by the Abarbanel. First Edition. Venice, 1592. * Mifalos Elokim, containing philosophical essays on the paths of faith, by the statesman and Torah scholar Rabbi Don Yitzchak Abarbanel, one of the greatest Jewish thinkers of all time. The sefer addresses the foundations of faith in Judaism — the creation and renewal of the world, miracles, the soul, and related topics — while constantly citing the writings of the Rambam, the Ralbag, and others. It was printed on the basis of two manuscript copies of the work, which had belonged to the great Italian Kabbalist Rabbi Menachem Azariah of Fano (the Rema) and to the philanthropist Shmuel Fransish. Don Yitzchak Abarbanel (1437–1508) was one of the most illustrious and famous Torah sages in recent centuries, a leader of Spanish and Portuguese Jewry at the time of the Spanish expulsion, and one of the last Jewish thinkers of the medieval period. All his works quickly became widespread, and some were printed already during his lifetime. Several became sifrei yesod, including his commentary on the Torah, the Hagaddah, and others. Venice, 1592.
