“May Hashem fulfill all the desires of their hearts for good, in all matters.”  A Letter Full of Blessings from the Beis Yisrael of Gur – Entirely in his Handwriting Jerusalem, 1961 * A lengthy handwritten and autographed letter in the handwriting of the holy Admor Rabbi Yisrael Alter of Gur, author of Beis Yisrael, written during the Yamim Nora’im between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur of the year 1961. The letter is composed of several sections, all of them devoted exclusively to words of blessing! The Rebbe writes: “With this, I come to bless all the people you mentioned in your letter with the blessing of a Gmar Chasimah Tovah, and a good and happy year, and may Hashem fulfill all the desires of their hearts for good, in all matters. May the Almighty also send you abundant nachas from all your descendants, may they live, in perfect health… and may you see them conducting themselves in the path of Torah and tradition.” At the conclusion of the letter, the Rebbe reiterates his blessings: “…your friend who seeks your welfare, with the blessing of a Gmar Chasimah Tovah and a good year, and a joyous festival to you and to all who are with you, and to all members of our community, may they live. The one who awaits the salvation of Hashem in all aspects, Yisrael.” Following his signature, the Rebbe adds: “And convey my regards to the members of our community, and my blessing in all matters, for good.” At the bottom of the page, the Rebbe added further personal blessings to several distinguished members of the community: “And convey regards… to my friend R’ … with the blessing of complete healing for him and for the members of his household, may they live. Likewise, regards to R’ … with the blessing of success and all good. Likewise, convey regards … with the blessing of complete healing and all good, and a joyous festival and a good year to all.” The Beis Yisrael, Rabbi Yisrael Alter of Gur (1895–1977), son of the Imrei Emes, was one of the greatest Rebbes in the generation following the Holocaust and one of the leaders of Chareidi Jewry in Eretz Yisrael. Until the age of ten, he studied with his grandfather, the Sfas Emes, and was already known as an exceptional prodigy. At his father’s instruction, and during his father’s lifetime, he led a select group of bnei aliyah from among the Gerrer chassidim, and after his father’s passing in 1948, he succeeded him as Rebbe. He rebuilt the Gur Chassidus after the devastation of the Holocaust, and thousands flocked to him seeking his counsel and guidance. He stood at the head of the Moetzes Gedolei HaTorah and exerted a profound influence on the character of Chareidi Jewry in Eretz Yisrael. Jerusalem, 1961.
