Sefer Yesod: Tiferes Yisrael by the Maharal Venice, 1599. First Edition.  * Sefer Tiferes Yisrael containing profound essays on Matan Torah and the Written Torah, by the Torah giant Rabbi Yehuda Loew ben Betzalel, the Maharal of Prague. The writings of the Maharal charted an entirely new path in Jewish thought. They spread quickly throughout the Jewish world and were embraced as sifrei yesod in hashkafa and emunah, as well as in the elucidation of the aggados of Chazal. The great chassidic masters, foremost among them the Maggid of Kozhnitz, revered him deeply, regarding his teachings to be on the level of the leading kabbalists. They made great efforts to have his sefarim printed in new editions. This sefer was printed during the lifetime of the Maharal. Unlike the Maharal’s other works, which were printed in Prague or Cracow, this sefer was printed in Venice. The author, Rabbi Yehudah Loew (c.1512-1609), known as the Maharal of Prague, was one of the greatest Jewish sages and mystics of all time. His name is mentioned in the same breath as Rabbi Yosef Karo and the Arizal. He was a prolific author whose deep and innovative philosophical works on all realms of Torah are fundamental Jewish classics.
