Simchas Haregel. Haggadah shel Pesach with Commentary by the Chida. First Edition.   Livorno, 1782 * Pesach Haggadah with chiddushim and explanations on the Haggadah, and drashos and allusions for the festival of Pesach, by Rabbeinu Chaim Yosef Dovid Azulai, known as the Chida. The text of the Haggadah is printed in large square letters, with the commentary arranged around it. The preface to the Haggadah includes allusions and mussar drawn from the simanim of the Seder. This is the first Haggadah printed in Livorno. After it, more than 130 Hagaddos were printed there (see Otzar HaHaggados, index of printing locations, p. 371). Livorno, 1782. First edition. Page Count: 102; 64 leaves. Condition: Generally good; restorations to several leaves at the beginning of the second part of the sefer, and holes filled in the final leaves. New binding. In the second part of the sefer, there is a commentary on Megillas Rus, discourses for the festival of Sukkos, “Pesach Einayim” on Maseches Sukkah, as well as the first edition of Maseches Gerim , printed from a Munich manuscript. Since the two sections deal with different subjects, they were often separated, and each part is generally found independently. Here, however, the volume appears in its two parts, as originally printed and as recorded in bibliographical sources. In it, he comments on the Chida’s commentaries to the Passover Haggadah, as well as on the additions and supplements to his interpretations that were printed in his various works. - - - - - - - - - - With regard to the obligation of women to recite the Hagaddah, one of the well-known halachic rulings of the Chida, cited in the Hagaddah (as well as in his other sefarim), is that women are likewise obligated in the recitation of the Hagaddah: “Know that women are obligated in the Hagaddah (and not like the Rav Beis David); therefore at that time, women should be attentive… to hear the Hagaddah” (leaf 20a). There are different rulings on this matter and the words of the Chida are frequently cited in halacha.
