Unpublished Handwritten Chiddushim of Rabbi Mordechai Henna of Hamburg, Author of Aggadas Mordechai Germany, 18th Century * Three pages on the laws of Gittin in the handwriting of Rabbi Mordechai Henna, author of Aggadas Mordechai on the Haggadah shel Pesach, and one of the rabbanim of Germany in the 18th century. To the best of Zaidy’s knowledge, these chiddushim have never been published. The great figures of his generation, among them Rabbi Yehonasan Eibischitz and Rabbi Shaul, Av Beis Din of Amsterdam, held his Torah innovations in the highest esteem and granted enthusiastic approbations to several of his sefarim, to the extent that Rabbi Yechezkel Katzenellenbogen, Av Beis Din of Ah”u — the united communities of Altona, Hamburg, and Wandsbek — gave him a general approbation “to publish all that you have innovated in Torah”! Rabbi Mordechai Henna (d. 1767) was one of the rabbanim of Hamburg and was renowned as an exceptional darshan. He married the daughter of Rabbi Shimshon Chassid Bloch and was the mechutan of the Yaavetz. During the fierce controversy between the Yaavetz and Rabbi Yehonasan Eibischitz, he was initially inclined to stand alongside his mechutan, the Yaavetz, but afterward, he took a firm stand in full support of Rabbi Yehonasan Eibischitz. Rabbi Mordechai authored many sefarim, but of these, only his work on the Haggadah, Aggadas Mordechai (Amsterdam 1764), was printed. Germany, 18th century.
