“It will bring me joy” Special Chassidic Letter from the Rayatz of Lubavitch to the Chabad Chassidim of Jerusalem Riga, 1929 * Important letter sent by the holy Admor Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Schneersohn of Lubavitch to “our friends, members of our community in the Holy City of Jerusalem, may it be rebuilt and established, may Hashem grant you life.” The Rebbe starts the letter with a warm blessing: “May the Almighty fulfill the wishes of each and every one, bestowing only goodness and blessings.”  He then arouses them regarding the study of Chassidus, writing: “I would like to encourage you to set regular times for the study of Chassidus, and I ask that you let me know the arranged schedule for this; it will bring me joy.” He concludes the letter with a double blessing in his holy handwriting: “ The one who seeks your welfare and blesses you, Yosef Yitzchak.” The Rebbe Rayatz, Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Schneersohn (1880-1950),   was the sixth Rebbe in the Chabad dynasty, which he led from 1920. He worked extensively to strengthen Yiddishkeit in Russia under Soviet rule, establishing a secret network of Talmud Torahs and yeshivas. He was arrested and sentenced to death, but was ultimately released. In 1940, he immigrated to the United States, where he continued to build the great Chabad Chassidus. His son-in-law and successor was the Admor Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneersohn, the seventh Lubavitcher Rebbe. Riga, 25 Iyar 1929. Written by the secretary, Rabbi Yechezkel Feigin, and at its end, the Rebbe’s handwritten signature with the added word “u’mevarcham” in his holy handwriting. Double leaf. Page size: 13.6 × 21.5 cm.
