Personal Siddur of the Admor Rabbi Hershele of Kretshnif Tel Aviv, 1979 * Siddur Ohr HaYashar – Nusach Koidanov, from which the Admor Rabbi Tzvi Hirsch Rosenbaum of Kretshnif poured out his heart in prayers for many years, both on weekdays and on Shabbos. A distinguished Rebbe who survived the Holocaust, he was famous for the salvations and miracles wrought by the powerful impact of his prayers, conducted with intense devotion and spiritual fervor. Throughout the siddur, numerous signs of use are evident, along with marks of moisture from the tears he shed during his prayers. On the leaf preceding the title page appears the Rebbe’s holy handwritten signature, and in several places, there are notations of kavanos and Holy Names in his handwriting. On the inner side of the endpaper is a letter of authentication in the handwriting of his grandson and trusted attendant, Rabbi Mordechai Rabinowitz, who testifies that his grandfather, the Rebbe, prayed from this siddur “temidin kesidran” (day in and day out), and that all the handwritten notes, signs of use, and tear stains are from him. The Admor Rabbi Tzvi Hirsch Rosenbaum of Kretshnif -Siget (1912–2006) , author of Toras Chaim Ve’emunah, was raised under the influence of his grandfather, the Admor Rabbi Eliezer Zev of Kretshnif, and his uncle Rabbi Bertchi Leifer of Satmar, and became the son-in-law of the Admor Rabbi Chaim Mordechai of Nadvorna, author of Divrei Chaim. He served as Rebbe in Kiryat Ata, to which he was sent by the Admor Rabbi Aharon of Belz, and from 1986 in Jerusalem. His teachings were later compiled in the sefarim Toras Chaim Ve’emunah, Kedushas Tzvi, and others. He was famed for his extraordinary Avodas Hashem, and many flocked to him to receive his blessings. The power of his prayer was immense, and he fulfilled the words of the Rambam, as cited in his introduction to Raza De’uvda: that prayer must be offered with devotion and fervor of the heart, with the subjugation of all one’s faculties to pure and sanctified thoughts directed to Hashem at all times.
