One of the Rarest Works of the Chida: Beis Menuchah – Order of Prayers for a Yahrzeit Established by the Chida – Livorno, 1802 * The sefer Beis Menuchah contains a structured order of study and prayer for the anniversary of a person's passing (yahrzeit), intended to elevate the soul of the departed, whether a man or a woman. This order was established by Rabbi Chaim Yosef David Azulai, the Chida. The order of study includes a prayer recited before learning, followed by the main body of study, consisting of selected passages from the Tanach, Mishnayos, the Talmud, and the Zohar. After this is the text of the Idros (deep Kabbalistic sections from the Zohar) — Idra Rabbah and Idra Zuta. At the end is a prayer for the elevation of the soul and seven customs pertaining to a yahrzeit. This is the first complete edition of this order. The references for the text of the prayers were printed by the Chida during that same period at the end of his sefer Yosef Tehillos (Livorno 1801–1802). Here, however, the full body of the order of prayer was printed for the first time, including the final page containing the customs for a yahrzheit. It was printed during the lifetime of the holy author, the Chida, toward the end of his days. An exceptionally rare sefer!
