“The Merit of the Chofetz Chaim Should Stand by Him”: A Letter from Rabbi Moshe Feinstein on Guarding One’s Speech * A handwritten and autographed letter of approbation by the posek hador, Rabbi Moshe Feinstein, one of the greatest leaders of American Jewry, written regarding a sefer devoted to the laws of guarding one’s speech. In the letter, Rabbi Moshe emphasizes the great care required to avoid stumbling in forbidden speech, and therefore writes that “these matters must be reviewed many times.” He concludes with a blessing to the publisher: “It is a most worthy undertaking to print this for the benefit of the public, and may Hashem grant you success, to bring benefit through this sefer… And may the merit of Maran the Chofetz Chaim, of blessed memory, stand by you and all your household in all matters, both spiritual and physical, and grant you continued growth in Torah and in good deeds, always.” Rabbi Moshe Feinstein (1895–1986) was widely recognized as the posek hador of the previous generation. Rabbi Aharon Kotler once remarked, “The halacha is always as he says. If the posek hador rules that it is such, we have to heed his voice.” It was not uncommon that when complex halachic questions reached the greatest poskim, they would respond that only Rabbi Moshe possessed the broad shoulders to render a ruling in such matters. The approbation was printed at the beginning of the sefer Lashon Chaim (Jerusalem, 1978). New York, 1976. 10 lines in the handwriting and with the signature of Rabbi Moshe. Written on official letterhead; size : 21.5×28 cm. Condition : Good.
