Ahavas Tzion – Drashos of the Noda B’Yehuda, First Edition – Magnificent Copy with Wide Margins – Prague, 1827 * Eight drashos delivered by Rabbeinu Yechezkel Segal Landau, author of the Noda B’Yehuda, before the community of Prague. While the name of the Noda B’Yehuda is primarily associated with the world of halacha and commentary through his sefarim Noda B’Yehuda, Tzelach, and Dagul Mirevava, here, another facet of his persona emerges: that of a communal rabbi and public leader, addressing his congregation with words of encouragement, mussar, and emunah. His beautiful drashos are described by his primary disciple, Rabbi Elazar Fleckeles: “With his drashos of mussar, wisdom, righteousness, and integrity, he inspired untold thousands to return from sin” (Olas Chodesh HaShlishi, Drush 17). The sefer was printed after the author’s passing by his son and successor, Rabbi Shmuel Segal Landau, Av Beis Din of Prague, who added four drashos of his own at the end. Shivas Tzion – Responsa by Rabbi Shmuel Segal Landau, Av Beis Din of Prague, son and successor of the Noda B’Yehuda. Printed together with the sefer Ahavas Tzion in the same printing press and in the same year. This sefer too was printed on wide-margined paper and is particularly impressive. On the title page, Rabbi Shmuel writes with humility and admiration regarding his illustrious father: “All the good things found in this work can be traced back to their original source — my revered father and master, the gaon zt”l, for it was from him that I learned everything, and these teachings flow from the wellspring of his wisdom.” Prague, 1827. Ohel Dovid – Chiddushim on masechtos Shavuos and Yevamos by the gaon Rabbi Dovid Deutsch, Av Beis Din of Ir Chadash, beloved disciple of the Noda B’Yehuda and among those closest to him (forty teshuvos in the Noda B’Yehuda Tinyana are addressed to him!). Approbations from leading Gedolei Hador appear at the beginning of the sefer, among them the Ksav Sofer and the Admor Rabbi Moshe Teitelbaum of Ujhely, who praised the author and described him as: “Holy and pure… an angel of Hashem Tzevakos… the holy tzaddik.” It also includes a letter from the author’s son-in-law, the Maharam Ash, who had at that time relocated to Ungvar.
