Da’as Kedoshim by the Rozdol Rebbe — Printed by the Shinover Rav — Lemberg, 1849 * Explanations and allusions on Shabbos and the Yamim Tovim according to Kabbalah, by Rabbi Yehudah Tzvi Eichenstein of Rozdol. The author was the nephew and son-in-law of Rabbi Tzvi Hirsch of Ziditchov, and the main successor to his leadership of Ziditchov chassidim. The sefer was printed by members of the author’s family, foremost among them the Admor Rabbi Yechezkel Shraga Halberstam of Shinova, son of the Divrei Chaim of Sanz, who was then Av Beis Din of Rozdol. At the beginning of the sefer there is a beautiful approbation from his mechutan, Rabbi Chaim of Sanz, sent to his son Rabbi Yechezkel Shraga. The Sanzer Rebbe writes: “Who am I, lowly among men, to testify to the greatness of this precious work, when I have scarcely merited to understand his holy words?” In that same approbation, the Divrei Chaim establishes the name of the sefer: Da’as Kedoshim. The sefer includes Iggros Kodesh by the author which he sent to Munkatch, printed at both the beginning and the end of the sefer. Rabbi Yehudah Tzvi Eichenstein of Rozdol (1791–1847) was a gaon in both revealed and hidden Torah and was one of the great Rebbes of the Ziditchov dynasty. He was described by the Heichal HaBrachah of Komarno as “a man of G-d, wise in the secrets [of the Torah].” He was the son of the Tefillah L’Moshe of Sambor and the nephew and son-in-law of the “Sar Beit HaZohar, ” Rabbi Tzvi Hirsch of Ziditchov, from whom he received much of his Torah, and was the greatest of his disciples.
