Handwritten Blessings from the Lubavitcher Rebbe: “For success and chassidishe nachas from all your descendants ”   Brooklyn, 1952 * A letter sent by the Rebbe to one of the Chabad chassidim residing in Eretz Yisrael who wished to enter for the first time the inner sanctum – the Rebbe’s private quarters – approximately a year after the Rebbe accepted the mantle of leadership. The chassid inquired whether he should travel by airplane or by ship. The Rebbe responded: “It may be worthwhile to arrange your trip in such a way that you will be here on the day of the yahrzeit, which is the 10th of Shevat, and thereby it would be possible to travel also by ship, and it is not necessary to fly by airplane specifically.” And he blessed him: “May Hashem grant that your trip be successful both materially and spiritually, ” and added a remarkable blessing in his holy handwriting: “For success and chassidishe nachas from all your descendants, may they live, M. Schneerson.” As is well known, the Lubavitcher Rebbe’s every word was measured, and any addition of even a single word in the Rebbe’s handwriting is of utmost significance! The Admor Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson (1902-1994) was the seventh Rebbe in the dynasty of Lubavitcher Rebbes. Among the greatest Rebbes of the last generation, his influence spread throughout the entire world. He was extensively involved in bringing those far from Judaism closer and in mitzvah campaigns to merit the Jewish people. This letter is particularly noteworthy in that the Rebbe rules here that the chassid should travel from Eretz Yisrael to America by ship. In later years, due to repeated incidents of public Shabbos desecration during such sea voyages, the Rebbe took strong measures to discourage travel by ship that involved chilul Shabbos.
