Jewish Philosophy: Neveh Shalom – Early Edition – Venice, 1574 * Neveh Shalom is a work of Jewish thought and philosophy by Rabbi Avraham Shalom, one of the leading sages of Spanish Jewry in the generation of the Expulsion. In this sefer, the author explores profound philosophical questions concerning faith in the Creator, Kabbalah, science, and their relationship. Throughout the work, he frequently cites the earlier sages, particularly the Rambam, whom he greatly admired and whose views he discusses extensively (see Essay III, end of Chapter 2). The volume was printed by Zuan di Gara using the famous “Bomberg type” — the distinguished Hebrew typeface originally created by the renowned Venetian printer Daniel Bomberg. Neveh Shalom is cited not only in the writings of later Jewish philosophers, but also in works of prominent darshanim, including the author of Yefeh Toar and others.
