Yalkut Yomi - Chabad Calendar for young boys - 1944 - Very rare

From Day to Day is a Torah diary for young students. Which includes encyclopedic information for young ages. Compared to the previous pamphlet, of the year 1943, the 'Yalkut Yomi' in front of us also constitutes an pocket encyclopedia, since a short lexicon of Jewish concepts was added.

The Yalkut Yomi is the first file edited by the Lubavitcher Rebbe himself, and was very well received by his father-in-law, the Rebbe Haraytz, who stated that it is an obligatory to distribute it in the Jewish educational institutions. The calander appeared on behalf of the Center for Educational Affairs. The calander first came out for the year 1943, and after that for the year 1944 (see the next item).

This calander is a kind of 'Hayom Yom' suitable for children. The proverbs that appear in the calendar are printed on the regular calendar from1st of Tishrei until the 29th of Elul.

The booklets were written by the Rebbe in Hebrew and translated into English by R. Nissan Mindel. At the beginning of each of the booklets, the Rebbe as the director of the Center for Education added a letter 'to my young friend'. Only two parallel pages are devoted to each week in the calendar, with the majority of one of them free to write the good deeds the child did that week.

The Rebbe Haraytz clarified the purpose of the calendar:

"Ever since I came to this country - Adar Sheni 1940 - And knew the conditions of the cities of the United States and Canada I came to know that letters of awakening are not enough and we should also help with literary material. And looking at the bad condition of the education which thousands and tens of thousands of children of our fellow jews born in the land know nothing of Torah Mitzvot and good deeds, we consulted to publish a calander for children in the local language in order to teach the children of Israel the principles of the religion mitzvot and good deeds, and my honorable son in law Rabbi Menachem Mendel schneerson took the trouble to arrange the calendar, and our intention is especially for the children of the Talmud-Torah"."

At the beginning of the pamphlet a letter from the Lubavitcher Rebbe to the children of Israel was printed.

'ילקוט יומי' - לוח חב"די לנערים - שנת תש"ד - נדיר מאוד

From Day to Day הוא יומן תורני לתלמידים, הכולל מידע אנצקילופדי לגילאים הצעירים. לעומת הקונטרס הקודם, של שנת תש"ג, ה'ילקוט יומי' שלפנינו מהווה גם "אנציקלופדיה של כיס", כיוון שלילקוט צורף לקסיקון מושגים יהודיים קצר.

לוח 'ילקוט יומי' הינה הקובץ הראשון שנערך על ידי הרבי מליובאוויטש עצמו, וזכה לחביבות גדולה על ידי

חותנו אדמו"ר הריי"צ שהתבטא כי חובה להפיץ אותו במוסדות החינוך היהודיים. הלוח הופיע מטעם ה'מרכז לעניני חינוך'. ראשית יצא הלוח לשנת תש"ג, ולאחר מכן לשנת תש"ד.

לוח זה הוא מעין 'היום יום' בהתאמה לילדים. הפתגמים המופיעים בלוח מודפסים על סדר השנה הרגילה מא' תשרי ועד כ"ט אלול.

החוברות נכתבו על ידי הרבי בלשון הקודש ותורגמו לשפה האנגלית על ידי ר' ניסן מינדל. בתחילת כל אחת מהחוברות הוסיף הרבי מכתב 'לידידי הצעיר', בתור מנהל המרכז לעניני חינוך. לכל שבוע בלוח מוקדשים שני עמודים מקבילים בלבד, כאשר רובו של אחד מהם פנוי לכתיבת המעשים טובים שעשה הילד באותו שבוע.

הרבי הריי"צ ביאר את מטרת הלוח:

"מאז באתי למדינה זו – אדר שני ת"ש – והכרתי את תנאי המקום בערי ארצות הברית וקאנאדא נוכחתי לדעת כי מכתבי התעוררות אין מספיקין וצריכים לעזור גם בחומר ספרותי . . ובהתבונני במצבו הרע של החנוך אשר אלפים ורבבות ילדי אחינו בני ישראל ילידי הארץ אינם יודעים מאומה לא מתורה ולא ממצות, התיעצנו להוציא לאור לוח לילדים בשפת המדינה להכיר את ילדי ישראל עם עיקרי הדת המצות והנהגות טובות, וכבוד חתני הרה"ג ר' מנחם מענדיל שליט"א שניאורסאהן טרח ויגע לסדר את הלוח, וכוונתינו ביחוד בשביל ילדי התלמוד-תורה'ס".
