Reform Controversy - Rare Pamphlet, The Struggle of Rabbi Solomon Zalman Trier Against the Reformers on the Matter of Circumcision - Articles of Dozens of Israel's Sages on the Question of How to Deal with the Unbelievers Who Avoided Circumcising Their Sons, and Against Reform. Rabbinische Gutachten über die, a pamphlet edited by the rabbi of Frankfurt, Rabbi Salomon Zalman Trier - a collection of essays by the great rabbis of Germany, including Rabbi Jacob Ettlinger, author of the Aruch Le'ner, Rabbi Yitzchak Dov Ber Mamberger of Würzburg, Rabbi Samsom Rephael Hirsch, and many others. In a matter of great importance, the sanctity of the covenant of circumcision, and a stinging call to arms against the Reformers who have challenged the sanctity of this important mitzvah. Alongside letters of support from the leading lights of Chochmat Yisrael, such as Rabbi Solomon Judah Rapoport, Isaac Noa Manheimer, Shmuel David Luzzatto, and Judah Leib Maimon Zunz. Background: Around the year 1882, there was a change in the status of the rabbis of the communities in Germany, and following the activities of the Reformers, a new census was opened in which circumcised Jews could be registered, in contrast to the practice until then, where the census of the Jewish population was in the hands of the local rabbi alone. As a result, the observance of the mitzvah of brit milah among the Reformers lapsed, and they refrained from circumcising their sons. The Rav of Frankfurt, Rabbi Solomon Zalman Trier, dispatched a letter to dozens of the great men of Israel, calling upon them to deliberate how to deal with the uncircumcised members of the community who were not circumcising their sons. The pamphlet contained the responses of the leading rabbis of Germany, who set forth their views on how to deal with the apostates, alongside articles by the leaders of the Orthodox Haskalah movement, who were also consulted. This pamphlet was printed in a limited format only and not published widely, in order to avoid the impression that the mitzvah of brit milah is subject to controversy. Before us is a handsome and well-preserved copy, including an original green wrapper! פולמוס הרפורמה - חוברת נדירה, מאבקו של רבי שלמה זלמן טריר כנגד הרפורמים בעניין ברית המילה - מאמרי עשרות גאוני ישראל בשאלת הדרך לנהוג עם פורקי עול אשר נמנעו מלמול את בניהם, וכנגד הרפורמה. פרנקפורט, תר”ד | 1844 Rabbinische Gutachten über die, חוברת בעריכת רבה של פרנקפורט רבי רבי שלמה זלמן טריר - אסופת מאמרי גדולי רבני גרמניה, בהם רבי יעקב עטלינגר בעל הערוך לנר, רבי יצחק דב במברגר הרי”ד מווירצבורג, הרש”ר הירש, ורבים נוספים. בעניין יקר מעלת ברית המילה, וקריאת קודש חריפה כנגד הרפורמים אשר קראו תיגר על מעלת מצווה חשובה זו.  לצד מכתבי תמיכה של אישים מראשי חכמת ישראל, כמו רבי שלמה יהודה רפפורט, יצחק נח מנהיימר, שמואל דוד לוצאטו, ויום טוב ליפמאן צונץ. רקע: סביב שנת תר”ב / 1882 חל שינוי במעמד רבני הקהילות בגרמניה, ובעקבות פעילות הרפורמים נפתח רישום אוכלוסין נוסף בו יכלו להירשם גם יהודים שאינם נימולים, בניגוד לנהוג עד אז אשר רישום אוכלוסיית היהודים היה נתון בידי רב המקום בלבד. בעקבות כך חלה התרופפות ביחס למצוות ברית מילה בקרב הרפורמים ונמנעו מלמול את בניהם. רבה של פרנקפורט רבי שלמה זלמן טריר הריץ מכתב לעשרות גאוני ישראל, בקריאתו אליהם לטקס עצה איך לנהוג בפורקי העול מבני הקהילה אשר לא מלו את בניהם. בחוברת התפרסמו תשובות גאוני ישראל חשובי רבני גרמניה אשר שטחו את דעתם בדרך בה יש לנהוג בפורקי העול, לצד מאמרים מאת אישי תנועת חכמת ישראל האורתודוקסיים אשר גם נועץ בהם. חבורת זו נדפסה בפורמט מצומצם בלבד ולא פורסמה ברבים, בכדי למנוע רושם שחלילה מצוות ברית המילה נתונה לפולמוס. לפנינו עותק נאה ושמור, כולל מעטפת ירוקה מקורית!
