Hillel Landsman [1897 – 1973], a second aliyah pioneer, a leader of settlement in the eastern Galilee, was a defender of Tel Hai, a founder of Ayelet Hashahar, an intelligence agent for Hagana, a manager of the Hula concession, and secretary of the Gush Committee for the Galilee settlements. He served as head of the Galilee Regional Council and mayor of Hatzor HaGelilit.
