A copy of the Gaon Rabbi Chaim Elazar Wax - various handwritten notes on the book's ownership by Rabbi Chaim Elazar Wax - and ownership stamps from the time of his tenure in Piotrkow and from his stay in Warsaw after his tenure in Kalish. The Gaon Rabbi Chaim Elazar Wex [1822-1889] of the great Geonim of Poland, author of the Sefer 'Nefesh Chaya'. Rabbi of the holy communities of Kalish and Piotrkow. Born in the town of Tarnogrod in Poland in the year 1822, to Rabbi Avraham Yehuda Leibush and Chaya Tova. Married to the daughter of Rabbi Moshe Yosef Halberstam, brother of the ”Divrei Chaim” of Zans whom he regarded as his rebbe. At the age of eighteen he was appointed rabbi of the town of Tarnogrod, a position he held for twenty years. In Tarnogrod he headed a yeshiva which he founded and financed from his own pocket. In nearby Kalish on the German border he waged a battle against the influence of Reform which also forced him to leave the city. For four years he sat in Warsaw and was a partner in the management of Jewish religious life, until his appointment as rabbi of Piotrkow. in the book before us are seals from both periods, also from Piotrkow and during his stay in Warsaw. ספר שערי שמחה, ווארשא, תרל”ח - עותק הגאון רבי חיים אלעזר וואקס בעל הנפש חיה רבה של פיעטרקוב ספר שערי שמחה, מאת הגאון רבי יעקב שמחה אבד”ק קעמפנא, מהדורה ראשונה, ווארשא, תרל”ח עותק הגאון רבי חיים אלעזר ווקס - רישומים שונים בכתב יד על היות הספר בבעלות רבי חיים אלעזר ווקס - וחותמות בעלות מזמן כהונתו בפיעטרקוב ומזמן שהותו בווארשא לאחר כהונתו ברבנות קאליש. הגאון רבי חיים אלעזר וקס [ה'תקפ”ב – א' בתמוז ה'תרמ”ט] מגדולי גאוני פולין, בעל מחבר ספר 'נפש חיה' כ=רבן של קהילות קודש קאליש ופיעטרקוב.  נולד בעיירה טרנוגרוד שבפולין בשנת תקפ”ב לרבי אברהם יהודה לֵיבּוּשׁ ולחיה טֹאבָּא. נישא לבתו של רבי משה יוֹסֵף הלברשטאם, אחיו של ה”דברי חיים” מצאנז אותו החשיב כרבו. בגיל 18 התמנה לרב העיירה טרנוגרוד, תפקיד אותו מילא 20 שנה. בטרנוגרוד עמד בראש ישיבה אותה פתח ומימן מכספו. בקאליש הסמוכה לגבול גרמניה ניהל מאבק נגד השפעות הרפורמה שבעקבותיו גם נאלץ לעזוב את העיר. במשך ארבע שנים ישב בוורשה והיה שותף לניהול חיי הדת היהודיים, עד התמנותו לרב העיר פיוטרקוב - כאמור בספר שלפנינו חותמות משתי תקופות אלו, גם מפיערטקוב וגם בזמן שהותו בווארשא.
