Kavod HaLevanon - the Torah-study supplements of the Jerusalem-based newspaper HaLevanon - very rare! Extremely rare! The Torah journal Kevod HaLevanon - A Torah journal of the Jerusalem newspaper HaLevanon, published by Yechiel Breil, Michal Hacohen and Yoel Moshe Salomon - most issues of the single year it appeared in Jerusalem, Jerusalem | 1863-1864. The issues of Ha-Levanon and the periodical Kevod Ha-Levanon are the rarest of rarities and are found in only a few collections in the world. On the pages of the journal, a protracted and extensive correspondence was carried on concerning the ascent to Har Habeit and the resumption of Hakravat Hakorbanot and Korban Pesahc in our time, with the participation of the great rabbis, including Rabbi David Friedman of Karlin, the rabbi of Jerusalem Rabbi Meir Oyerbach, author of the 'Amray Bina', Rabbi Zvi Hirsh Kalisher and Rabbi Elijah of Graditz. HaLevanon was the first Jerusalem newspaper, and the first newspaper to appear in Eretz Yiesrael. It was edited by Yechiel Brial, and printed in his own press, in partnership with Michael Hacohen and Yoel Moshe Salomon. Immediately following the appearance of HaLevanon, R' Yisrael Becker began to publish a newspaper of his own, HaHavatzelet. A bitter polemic ensued between the two parties, of which we are witnesses in the present issues, when in the tenth issue of the supplement to HaLevanon, in a very sharp polemical article, the publishers of HaLevanon set forth their claims against R' Y. Becker. The pages of HaLevanon served as a respected forum for the writings of the Jerusalem sages on matters of the day, with among the contributors being the Gaon Rabbi Shmuel Salant, who published therein from his Torah discourses on the subject of the Yieshuv of Eretz Yisrael and other matters. We have before us the bulk of the issues that appeared during the time of the publication of the newspaper in Jerusalem, except for the first issue and a number of pages missing from two issues. The days of the Jerusalem newspaper were numbered following mutual denunciations between the editors of the Ha-Havazzelet and Ha-Levanon which led to the closure of both papers. Ha-Levanon relocated to European cities and continued to appear under the editorship of Breil. Ha-Havazzelet resumed publication after many years in Jerusalem under the editorship of Yisrael Frumkin. These sheets are exceedingly rare and precious!! They are found in but a few collections in the world!! כבוד הלבנון - גיליונות המאסף התורני של עיתון הלבנון הירושלמי - גיליונות נדירים מאוד! יקרי המציאות ביותר! מאסף תורני 'כבוד הלבנון' - מאסף תורני של העיתון הירושלמי 'הלבנון' בהוצאת יחיאל ברי”ל מיכל הכהן ויואל משה סלומון - מרבית גיליונות השנה היחידה שהופיע בירושלים, ירושלים, תרכ”ג-תרכ”ד | 1863-1864 גיליונות עיתון הלבנון והמאסף 'כבוד הלבנון' הינם יקרי המציאות ביותר ונמצאים באוספים בודדים בעולם בלבד. מעל גבי הגיליונות התנהלה התכתבות ענפה ומתמשכת בעניין העלייה להר הבית וחידוש עבודת הקרבנות והקרבת קרבן פסח בזמן הזה, בהשתתפות גאוני ישראל בהם רבי דוד פרידמן מקרלין, רבה של ירושלים רבי מאיר אויערבך בעל ה'אמרי בינה', רבי צבי הריש קלישר ורבי אליהו מגריידיץ. עיתון הלבנון היה העיתון הירושלמי הראשון, והעיתון הראשון שהופיע בארץ ישראל. העיתון יצא בעריכת יחיאל ברי”ל, ונדפס בדפוס שבבעלותו יחד עם השותפים מיכל הכהן ויואל משה סלומון. מיד לאחר הופעת עיתון הלבנון, החל ר' ישראל בק להדפיס גם הוא עיתון, את עיתון החבצלת. בין הצדדים התחולל פולמוס כבד, אליו אנו עדים גם בגיליונות שלפנינו כאשר בגיליון העשירי במוסף כבוד הלבנון, במאמר פולמוסי חריף מאוד שוטחים מו”לי הלבנון את טענותיהם כנגד רי”ב. גיליונות כבוד הלבנון היוו במה מכובדת על גבי כתבו גאוני ירושלים בענייני השעה, כאשר בין הכותבים נמנה הגאון רבי שמואל סלנט, אשר פרסם בו מדברי תורתו בענייני יישוב ארץ ישראל ועניינים נוספים. לפנינו מרבית הגיליונות שהופיעו בזמן הופעת העיתון בירושלים למעט הגיליון הראשון ומספר דפים שחסרים בשני גיליונות. ימי העיתון בירושלים לא ערכו ימים בעקבות הלשנות הדדיות בין עורכי העיתון החבצלת והלבנון שהובילו לסגירת שני העיתונים. עיתון הלבנון עקר את מושבו לערי אירופה והמשיך להופיע בעריכת בריל. עיתון החבצלת חידש את הופעתו לאחר שנים רבות בירושלים בעריכת ישראל פרומקין. גיליונות אלו נדירים ויקרי המציאות ביותר!! נמצאים באוספים ספורים בעולם בלבד!!
