sefer Oneg LeShabbat, by Rabbi Mattityah Gargi, Chief Rabbi of the Harat Community of Afghanistan - Author's Dedication in his own hand - First Edition, Jerusalem, 1913. The book comprises three parts in three sections: Part One, Oneg Sabbath, Derashot Al HaTorah. Part Two, Tehilot David al Sefer Tehillim. Part Three, Beit HaMikdash on Mishnah matters. Rabbi Mattityah Gargi, who served as the rabbi of the congregation of the Jews of Herat in Afghanistan, later immigrated to Eretz Yisrael with his family, making the entire journey on foot, which took ten weeks! Rabbi Matityah was born in the city of Herat in Afghanistan, the son of a family of rabbis from the Anoushi Meshad who had emigrated to the city in order to be able to return to Judaism. He served as a preacher, teacher and one of the leaders of the Jewish community of Herat. He also occasionally represented the Jews of Herat before the Afghan authorities.
