Mourning in Jerusalem upon the passing of the Gaon Rabbi Yitzchak Yerucham Diskin ZT”L, among the Geonim of heavenly Jerusalem, among the founders of the Edah HaCharedit - Jerusalem, Adar, 1925. Invitation to the wedding of Rabbi Yechiel Yaakov, son of the Rebbe of Kolomyya Rabbi Asher Anshel Lichtenstein, nephew and son-in-law of Rabbi Hillel Lichtenstein of Kolomyya. An issue of the Kol Yisrael newspaper, mourning the passing of the Gaon Rabbi Yitzchak Yerucham Diskin ZT”L, among the greatest luminaries of Jerusalem and the leaders of the Edah HaCharedit, son and successor of the Rabbi of Jerusalem, the Maharil Diskin. Published in this issue is an invitation to the wedding of Rabbi Yechiel Yaakov, son of the Rebbe of Kolomyya Rabbi Asher Anshel Lichtenstein, nephew and son-in-law of Rabbi Hillel Lichtenstein of Kolomyya. Rabbi Yitzchak Yerucham Diskin (1839–1925) was the only son of Hinda Rachel (née Broide) and Rabbi Yehoshua Leib Diskin, known as the ”Maharil Diskin”. At a young age (1855) he lost his mother. He acquired his Torah education from his father, but despite his extensive proficiency and greatness in Torah, he chose not to use his Torah learning as a spade to dig with, and refrained from earning a living from a rabbinic position. Immigration to Jerusalem and leadership of the institutions: Upon the passing of his father the Maharil Diskin in 1898, the leaders of the Old Yishuv in Jerusalem appealed to him to immigrate to the Land of Israel and assume the leadership of the enterprises established by his father - the ”Diskin Orphanage” and the ”Ohel Moshe” Yeshiva. Despite the entreaties, about a decade passed until he completed the move, and in the month of Elul 1908 he definitively established his residence in Jerusalem. Shortly after his immigration, following the passing of Rabbi Shmuel Salant (1909), he became one of the most prominent and influential spiritual figures among the Ashkenazi public in the city. He vehemently opposed the establishment of the Chief Rabbinate, and was among the founders and shapers of the path of the ”Edah HaCharedit”. Rabbi Asher Anshel Lichtenstein (1864–1937) was known as the ”Rebbe of Kolomyya” (the ”Kolomeyer Rebbe”). He was the nephew, as well as the son-in-law, of Rabbi Hillel Lichtenstein of Kolomyya. He began his Torah path after his marriage in the city of Kolomyya, where he served as a Dayan. With the outbreak of the First World War, he relocated his residence to Cluj-Napoca (Klausenburg). Among his Hasidic followers, he was known as a holy man and a miracle worker. His family and continuation of his path: His successor: his son, Rabbi Avigdor Alter Hillel Lichtenstein, inherited his seat and continued to lead the court in Cluj-Napoca. His additional son: Rabbi Chaim Yaakov Lichtenstein, who merited to immigrate to the Land of Israel and settled in Jerusalem in 1922. His son-in-law: Rabbi Pinchas HaKohen Steiner, who served as a rabbi in his father-in-law's Beit Midrash in Cluj-Napoca. Good condition. Well-preserved.
