Between War and Peace - a rare book about the activities of the various Jewish societies at the Paris Peace Conference that took place after the Second World War, by Dr. Joseph Tenenbaum. World Jewish Congress Publishing, Israel Branch. Jerusalem, 5720 | 1960 At the Paris Peace Conference in 1919, the Jewish question and the future of the Land of Israel were discussed extensively. The Zionist delegation, which appeared before the powers, demanded recognition of the historical right of the Jewish people to the land, the determination of broad borders for it, and the handover of the mandate's administration to Britain. In this context, it was agreed that Jerusalem would remain under British rule, with the establishment of a special committee that would ensure freedom of religion and access to the holy places for everyone. In addition to the Land of Israel arena, an extensive representation of the ”Committee of Jewish Delegations” operated at the conference, representing many Jewish communities, primarily from Eastern Europe and the United States. These representatives applied heavy pressure on the powers to ensure the safety and security of millions of Jews in the new states established in Europe following the war. Their activity bore fruit, and explicit clauses were incorporated into the various peace treaties, obligating these states to grant full civil, religious, and national equal rights to minorities, and among them, the Jews. Ultimately, the conference's discussions laid the legal and political foundation for the decisions of the San Remo conference in April 1920, where the British Mandate, which included the Balfour Declaration, was officially approved - a step that paved the way toward the establishment of the state. A rare and content-rich book. 214 pages. Good condition. Well-preserved.
