Vintage Tennyson 5-Cent Lithographed Cigar Tin, Essman Cigar Co. - This upright rectangular cigar tin was produced for the Tennyson brand of five-cent cigars. The exterior features a lithographed portrait of a bearded man, representing the poet Alfred Lord Tennyson, enclosed within an ornate black scrollwork frame against a red background. The brand name Tennyson is printed in a stylized font at the top, with 5 cents prominently displayed at the base of the main panels. The back panel contains a rectangular mark for Essman Cigar Co., Inc. Detroit, Mich. and includes text stating the cigars were manufactured to retail at not more than five cents each. One side panel features a legal notice and factory information identifying Factory No. 12911, 11th District, State of Ohio. The lower edge of one side is marked Cadillac Can Co.
