The tin is constructed from lithographed tinplate featuring a bright yellow ground with black and red decorative elements. The lid and the front face display a central red circular graphic depicting the famous pacing horse, Dan Patch, hitched to a sulky with a driver. The typography on the lid includes the brand name Dan Patch and Cut Plug, along with the manufacturer name Scotten Dillon Co. Detroit. The front face features large stylized lettering reading Dan Patch Cut Plug.
