BLOOD-STAINED, BATTLE-DAMAGED JAPANESE NATIONAL FLAG

Japanese national flag, 32 x 27.5 in. cotton, clamp-dyed with a red "hinomaru" sun symbol at center. The item's numerous tears and ragged edges suggests heavy battle damage and perhaps most hauntingly, a Kastle-Meyer presumptive blood test indicated positive for the presence of hemoglobin, suggesting that the flag may have been taken from a dead Japanese soldier. Significant wear throughout with ragged edges and staining, as expected given this flag's presumed origin, else very good.
