Pyotr Fedorovich Borel (1829-1898).

Graduated from the Imperial Academy of Arts in the class of watercolors and lithography in 1855.

 

His works for the editions "Lyceum of Prince Bezborodko" (St. Petersburg, 1859), "Portrait Gallery of Russian Figures" by A. E. Munster (6 volumes, St. Petersburg, 1860-1869), "Portraits of Clergy" by A. I Tranchel (St. Petersburg, 1860-1862) and others. His collection "Portraits of persons who distinguished themselves and commanded active units in the war of 1853, 1854, 1855 and 1856" (60 notebooks, more than 400 portraits. St. Petersburg, 1857-1863) along with D. Doe's "Military Gallery" in the Winter Palace, is the largest single series of portraits in the history of Russian fine art.
