24 letters of Chidusehi Torah sent to the "Shevet Sofer" at his request, from his outstanding students. 1887 - A Most Interesting Trove of Torah Letters.

A treasure trove of letters of Torah thoughts, written by 24 of the Shevet Sofer’s students at his request, when he was at a spa resort in the summer of 1887. His students were learning the halachic issue of ‘dual condition” and sent him novellae, remarks and debates on the subject they were learning at yeshiva. 

These were students who became pulpit rabbis, teachers, talmidei chachamim and community leaders who greatly admired their rabbi and fulfilled his request, sending letters of Torah thoughts and blessings for his good health. The wording of the letters shows the students great respect and affection for their rabbi and the erudite Sofer family.

This collection is an exciting discovery of great quantity and quality, a fascinating glimpse into the glorious Pressburg yeshiva and its Rosh Yeshiva, the Shevet Sofer.

The great Gaon Rabbi Simcha Bunim Sofer (1843-1907), author of Shevet Sofer was a rabbi and Av Beis Din in Pressburg. He succeeded his grandfather and father, the Chassam Sofer and the Ksav Sofer as chief rabbi of Pressburg and head of the yeshiva there.
