An appeal to the British authorities in Eretz Yisroel, by Rabbi Shemaya Luria, after the 1929 Riots and the activity of the commission of inquiry headed by the judge Sir Walter Shaw, complaining about the authorities harassment of the Jews of Tel Aviv who had been left without a Kosher Shechita [Jerusalem, 1929].
"When every passing day brings with it new information about a murder, about a wound, about shooting on neighborhoods, on passerbys and on cars - on such days, the government was supposed to awaken from its stagnation and stand on every corner to defend people and property. If the government does not do so ... you would think that when Jews wanted to keep on living ... to keep far from a place of danger, the government must help them ..." - letter by Rabbi Shemaya Luria protesting against the British authorities that prevent Jewish Shochatim from operating the slaughterhouse in Tel Aviv, when they fear going to the slaughterhouses of Arabic Jaffa due to the danger to their lives [Jerusalem, 1929].

The content of the letter: Rabbi Shemaya's words imply the atrocities of the 1929 Riots and the harassment of the British authorities. The writer distinguishes between the organization of Jews to defend themselves and the Jews' desire to keep far from places of danger. He describes the distress of the residents of Tel Aviv and specifically that of the Shochatim and their families. At the end of the letter, he emphasizes the respect Chareidi Jewry shows the government, noting that his words should not be seen as disrespect.
Rabbi Shmuel Shemaya ben Rabbi Zvi Luria (1905-1989), an activist of Agudas Yisroel, one of the editors of the newspaper of the movement, Kol Yisroel, and one of the leaders of the Beis Yaakov educational system in Israel, a supervisor of the independent Chareidi education and one of the leaders of the Slonim Chassidim of Jerusalem. Was the brother of the great Tzaddikim, the Slonim Chassidim Rabbi Aharon Yosef Luria and Rabbi Yitzchak Matisyahu Luria.
