This auction presents a focused collection of material from the Philippines spanning tribal traditions of the Moro culture and the Spanish colonial period. The sale brings together objects that reflect the diverse history artistry and craftsmanship of the Philippine islands.
Highlights include a large selection of rattan work demonstrating the remarkable skill of Filipino artisans. Baskets, containers, and other woven forms show the versatility of rattan as both a functional and artistic material and represent traditions that have endured for generations.
The auction primarily features an important group of Philippine arms and armour including Barong, Kris, and Moro edged weapons. Shields from across the archipelago. A major highlight is a rare and complete Tausug armour set along with a strong selection of Moro artifacts that reflect the rich martial heritage of Mindanao and the Sulu region.
Tribal art is also well represented including a collection of powerful wood carved Bulul figures associated with rice culture and ritual life in the Cordillera region. These carvings display the strong sculptural traditions and spiritual symbolism.
Textiles from several Philippine groups are included showing intricate weaving traditions and regional identity expressed through color pattern and technique.
